BEIJING — The U.S. track and field team's protest of the women's 100-meter final at the Olympics was rejected Sunday night.

Record 10-medal haul for Jamaica

Osaka, Japan:
Jamaica finished the IAAF World Athletic Championships in Osaka, Japan on a high note, taking silver in the women's 4x400m final in a new national record of 3:19.73 seconds, on Sunday, September 2, 2007.
The team of (Shericka Williams; Shereefa Lloyd; Davita Prendagast and Novlene Williams) were beaten by the USA, who clocked a world leadng 3:18.55 seconds for the gold medal, while Great Britain came third with a national record of 3:20.04 seconds.
Jamaica finished the games with a record 10 medals (gold, six slver, and three bronze medals). The Caribbean side also finished eight overall in the medal table, and actually had the fourth most medals.
USA topped the medals with 26 (14G 4S 8B) ahead of Kenya 13, (5G 3S 5B) and Russia 16(4G 9S 3B) making up the top three nations.
Jamaica should have captured another medal in the men's 4x400m, but the team of (Michael Blackwood; Ricardo Chambers; Leford Green; Sanjay Ayre)finished fourth after being in medal position.

*Maurice Smith wins unlikely silver medal

Maurice Smith, won Jamaica's seventh, medal an unlikely silver in the grueling 10-discipline Men's Decathlon in a sensational new national record,
at the IAAF World Athletic Championships in Osaka, Japan, on Saturday, September 1, 2007 to lead a three-silver medal performance for the Jamaicans on the penultimate day, of the games.
Smith, who tabulated a career best 8644 points, led up to the eight discipline-the Men's Pole Vault, but, faltered on the javelin, giving the world record holder Roman ? ebrle of the Czech Republic the lead, which he held the rest of the way. Smith won the Pan American games, gold earlier this year, but no Jamaican before now had ever medaled in a World Champs Decathlon.
? ebrle, finished with 8676 points, just 32 ahead of Smith, while, Dmitriy Karpov (8586), of Kazakhstan placed third. The Jamaican finished ahead of a sea of European athletes.
The women's 4x100m team of Sheri-Ann Brooks; Kerron Stewart; Simone Facey and Veronica Campbell took Jamaica to their eight medal, after a strong finish by Campbell getting them silver in 42.01 seconds, beaten by a whisker by the Americans in a world leading 41.98 seconds.

Jamaica's Delloreen Ennis-London took Jamaica's third medal copping a bronze in the women's 100m final this morning, August 29, 2007, Jamaica-time.
In the best women's hurdles final of all-time in terms of quality, Ennis-London, in a blanket finish with four other athletes on the line finished third in a personal best 12.50 seconds, beaten by USA's World champion, and gold medalist Michelle Perry (12.46), and former world champion and silver medalist Perdita Felicien of Canada (12.49).

Powell, Campbell and Jamaica go for World Champs Glory

Asafa Powell the world's fastest man and Veronica Campbell, the world's fastest woman over the 100 meters this year will lead Jamaica's charge at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka Japan, tomorrow (Tonight Jamaica time).
Powell, the word record holder over 100 meters, with a triple 9.77 seconds record, has a season best 9.90 secnds and will need to go faster if he wants to beat the inform Tyson Gay of America with his seasn best of 9.84 secs. set at the US Trials earlier this year.
Gay, is tipped to capture the sprint double, as he also has the fastest time over the 200m distance this year, a sizzling 19.62 seconds makes him the second fastest man over the half lap race in history. In that race Gay faces Jamaica's Central America and Caribbean record holder Usain Bolt who ran 19.75 seconds at his national trials.
Bolt many suspects will be battling for the silver against American Wallace Spearman.

Jamaica's next best prospect for a medal, hopefully gold is Veronica Campbell.
Olympic Gold medalist, Campbell came back on the track this year and ran 11.07 seconds to win at an Invitatinal Meet at her National Stadium.
Campbell ran her personal best of 22.05 seconds in the 200m, beating American Allyson Felix to the finish line earning Jamaica's 6th Gold Medal in Olympic History. She also copped a silver in the 100m event.
At the National trials in Kingston, Jamaica, Campbell completed a sensational sprint double, copping the 100m in a world leading 10.89 secs. and the 200m in a season best 22.39 secs. A fit Campbell is expected to medal in both events at Osaka.

Veteran hurdler Delloreen Ennis-London won gold in the hotly contested Women's 100m Hurdles final and Nickeisha Wilson's silver in the women's 400m hurdles brought Jamaica's medal tally at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to five, ( two gold, two silver and a bronze); four of which comes from Track and Field.

Gold for Maurice Smith at Pan Am Games

Maurice Smith won gold in the Men's Decathlon, and National record holder Dorian Scott took silver in the Men's Shot Put to bring Jamaica's medal tally at the Pan AM Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to three, following on boxer Ricardo Smith's bronze.
Smith tabulated 8,278 points in the ten-discipline event, beating Cuba's Yordan Garcia (8,113) and Brazilian Carlos Chinin (7,977) into second and third respectively.
Scott took second spot in the shot put with a heave of 20.06m in the shot, narrowly beaten by Canada's who posted 20.10m for the win, and Carlos Veliz of Cuba took bronze with 19.75m.

Silver for Jamaica's McDermot

Ostrava, Czech Republic:
Latoya McDermott gave Jamaica their third medal with a second place finish in the Girls 400m final on the third day of the 5th IAAF World Youth, Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Friday, July 13, 2007.
McDermot clocked 54.12 seconds, to get silver behind Gold medalist Yuliya Baraley of the Ukraine in 53.57, while, Slovakia’s Alexandra Stukova (54.46) took bronze.
McDermot's Silver, added to Jamaica's Gold and Silver, won in the Boys 100m final on the second day of the championships

World Record holder for the Men's 100 meters Asafa Powell ran a blistering 9.90 seconds to win his pet event at the third Golden League meeting in Rome, Italy, on Friday, July 13, 2007.
Powell, a Jamaican sprinter who is conditioned by Steve Francis, from the MVP Track Club, was quick out of the blocks and covered the rest of the field at the half way stage and 'closed it down' about 10 meters from the finish line, and cruised to a season best.

Lightening Bolt slashes National 200m Record

Kingston, Jamaica:
Usain Bolt sketched his name in the record books last night, June 24, 2007, with a sensational 19.75 seconds clocking to win the senior men’s 200m at the PUMA/Supreme Ventures Jamaica National Athletic Championships at the National Stadium, in Kingston, Jamaica.
Bolt’s record run bettered Donald Quarrie mark of 19.86 seconds.
Bolt easily ran away from his rivals beating out Christopher Williams (20.24), and Clement Campbell (20.29) into second and third respectively.
Three years ago, Bolt broke the World Junior 200m record with a fast 19.93 seconds in the 2004 CARIFTA Games in Bermuda.

United States ace sprinter, Tyson Gay became the second fastest human being ever over 200 metres yesterday, June 24, 2007, at the AT&T United States Athletic Championships in Indianapolis, winning in a super 19.62 seconds.
This run is second to only Michael Johnson?s world record run of 19.32 seconds set at the 1996 Olympics.

Powell wins in Oslo

Jamaica's ace sprinter and world record holder Asafa Powell continued his winning form on Friday, June 15, 2007, with a 9.96 seconds clocking to win the Men's 100 meter event at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games in Oslo, which is the first of six Golden League meeting in Europe.
Powell turned back the challenges of Portugal's Obikwelu Francis (10.06), and Fasuba Olusoji of Nigeria (10.24). Devonish Marlon of Great Britain was third in the race in 10.08 seconds but, was disqualified because he ran in the Men's 100m B-race and the rules of the competition states that no athlete can run in both races.

The athlete winning all six Golden League meetings as a chance to capture the $1 Million dollar jackpot, the richest prize in athletics.

Women's 5000m World Record smashed

Meseret Defar of Ethiopia sliced nearly eight seconds off the Women's world 5000m record in the first of six Golden League Athletic meeting in Europe, at the Bislett Stadium.
Defar, won in a new best 14:16.63 seconds, beating Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya (14:22.51) and Ngetich Priscah Jepleting of Kenya (14:44.51). The Defar set the previous mark last year.

Veronica Campbell returns with a bang

Jamaica's former sprint Queen Veronica Campbell has returned to International running with a bang winning the 100 meters at the recent Jamaica Invitational International meeting at the National Stadium on Saturday May 5, 2007.
Campbell clocked 11.07 and edged out American Marshevet Hooker (USA) 11.08, and Rachelle Smith (USA) 11.19 to take the sprint crown in her first competitive 100 meter race for sometime now.

Blake shatters 100m Record at CARIFTA GAMES

Kingston, Jamaica:
St Jago High School sprinter, Yohan Blake, representing Jamaica at the CARIFTA GAMES, broke a 23 year-old National junior record, when he clocked a blistering 10.11 seconds on Saturday night, to win the U-20 boys 100 meters event, in the Turks and Caicos.
Blake, 17, was followed home by the Trinidad and Tobago pair of Keston Bledman, (10.41) and Nyls Nubret (10.51).

Holmwood, Calabar cop Champs titles

Holmwood Technical High School from the cool hills of Manchester won their fifth straight title, while Red Hills Road based Calabar captured their first trophy in 10 years, as the curtains came down on the ISSA/ Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Champs at the National Stadium Saturday night.

Holmwood won the Girls section by over 100 points, amassing 353.5 points, beating Vere Technical?s score of 232, Manchester High 226.5, Edwin Allen 217.5, St Jago 168.5, St Andrew High 91.5, Immaculate 77.5, Wolmer's 71, St Elizabeth Technical 42.5 and Alpha Academy 42.5 rounding off the top ten.

Calabar easily took the boys section, with 273.5 points, well ahead of six-time defending champs KC 200, JC 161, Wolmer's Boys, 137.5, St Jago 120, Herbert Morrison 64, St George's College 51.5, Munroe College 45, Camperdown 41, Bridgeport 30, making up the top ten.

Two records fall on Boys & Girls Champs opening day

*Cbars McKenzie, Vere's Williams smash records
Two records were smashed at the annual ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys/Girls Champs at the National Stadium yesterday (March 28, 2007).
Calabar High's Ramone McKenzie erased the Class 2 Boys 200m record by clocking 21.11 seconds in his heat, and Vere Technical's Kimberley Williams leapt to a record 13.52 meters to win gold in the Girls Triple jump open.

Powell & Richards win top awards


asafasanya203.jpg Asafa Powell and Sanya Richards have been named as the International Association of Athletics Federations' World Athletes of the Year for 2006. Powell claimed his first major 100m gold for Jamaica at the Commonwealth Games in March and remained unbeaten in all 16 finals he contested.

The 23-year-old also twice equalled his own 100m world record of 9.77 seconds.

Richards, 21, was also unbeaten over 400m and clocked 48.70 seconds to break the 22-year-old American record.
