Asafa runs 9.83 seconds!

*Pow, Pow’ ends season with another fast run
Stuttgart, Germany:
Jamaica’s World record holder Asafa Powell end his season with another cracking run in the IAAF 100m men World Athletics final in Stuttgart, Germany on Saturday, September 22, 2007.

Powell ran a championship record of 9.83 seconds, defeating into the runner-up spot Jaysuma Saidy Ndure of Norway (10.06) by over twenty hundreds of a second, while Powell’s compatriot Michael Frater was a distant third in 10.11.

The race was Powell’s fastest time, running into a head wind. The wind measured 0.3 m/s.

Powell, who placed a disappointing third in the 100m final at the IAAF Word Athletic champs last month, came back wth a world record 9.74 seconds run in Italy earlier this month, minus his main rival Tyson Gay of the US.

Jamaica looks to rebound

Kingston, Jamaica:

Jamaica?s netballers popularly called the Sunshine Girlz, will look to rebound tonight, September 18, 2007, from a 0-1 deficit, to England, at the National Sport Centre in Kingston, Jamaica.

If Jamaica's offence continues this lack lustre output then it won't be difficult for the British girls to win all three games in the series.

The final match of the series will be played this Friday.

The Girlz, suffered a major set back to their preparation for the IFNA World Netball tournament in New Zealand later this year when they lost the first game of the series to England 52-32.

Fan gets big pay day for catching record home run ball

The fan that caught Barry Bonds 756th home run ball got paid big time.


Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th home run ball fetched $752,467 at an auction that ended Saturday night, setting a high mark for Bonds-related memorabilia but falling far short of the record paid for a baseball.

The winner, whose name has not been released yet by SCP Auctions, placed a bid of $627,056 at 9:11 p.m. ET. After 30 minutes passed with no more bids, it was declared the winner, and a 20 percent commission of $125,411 was tacked on to the final price.

West Indies crashes out of 20/20 tournament

West Indies crashed out of the inaugural ICC world Twenty/20 Cricket tournament, with losses to hosts South Africa and bangladesh respectively.
West Indies needed a win over bangladesh on Thursday September 13, 2007, to stay in the competition, actually fell short of a competitive total considering the bowling and fielding form they are now in.

World number one Golfer Tiger Woods won his 13th major title of his illustrious career, after capturing the 89th PGA championship on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Southern Hills, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Tiger, came into the final round with a three-stroke lead, but, won by two strokes holding off challenges from Austin Walters, who shot a 67 (274), on the final day, on Ernie Els a final round 66, (275).

Aussie, Lankans battle for Cricket World Cup trophy

After a long and grueling six weeks of Cricket, the ICC Cricket World Cup will finally come to an end with what is expected to be a big clash between Australia and Sri Lanka in the trophy game at the Kensington Oval in Barbados this Saturday.

Sri Lanka beat New Zealand easily by 89 runs on Tuesday, while Australia had a comfortable seven-wicket win against World number two South Africa on Wednesday April 25, 2007 and over 18 overs to spare.

Historic Windies victory

*Caribbean side cops morale boosting 54 -run victory over Pakistan

At approximately 5:13 pm local time Shivnarine Chanderpaul caught the last batsman Shoaib Malik off the bowling of Corey Collymore which ignited an abundance of cheers from the patrons in the stands of the Sabina Park Cricket ground in Kingston Jamaica, mainly from the over 16,000 patrons in attendance.

This was an historic moment in the Cricket life of the West Indies winning their first match as hosts of a World Cup tournament.

Bangladesh upset New Zealand with two-wicket win

Bangladesh created a major upset in the ICC Cricket World Cup Preparation phase when they carved out a compelling two-wicket victory over one-day power house New Zealand in a practice match in Barbados yesterday (March 6, 2007).

New Zealand batted first and struggled to 224 all out in 47.1 overs with Jacob Oram smashing 88, while Brendon McCullum made 46.

Jamaica's Miracle Man wins Clásico Copa Confraternidad

"Jamaica's Miracle Man stalked the pace for most of the race and made a decisive move at the top of the stretch to win the $100,000 Clásico Copa Confraternidad [Confraternity Cup] on Saturday at El Comandante race track. Ridden by Panamanian and Florida-based jockey Cecilio Penalba, the winner finished the 1 3/16-mile race in 1:59:50."

Again Jamaica has displayed its superiority on the international arena. I hope the owners of Miracle Man will seek out more international events for the Miracle Horse.

I heard that Caymanas Park erupted in jubilation after the race.

Fabian Taylor?s goal gives Stars of the East end-of-round title

A Fabian Taylor strike gave Harbour View Football Club a 1-0 win over Waterhouse in the JFF Wray and Nephew National Premier League end-of-round final at the National Stadium last night.

Taylor?s second half goal not only make Harbour View $165,000 richer, but also gave them a beautiful trophy and earned them bragging rights over Waterhouse who beat them in an end-of-round final in January.

Taylor also scored the last time the two teams met in Drewsland where the former National representative equalized for the Stars of the East to draw the match 2-2.

Waterhouse received $110,000 for their troubles.

Lara hits double century...but Pakistan fights back

West Indies top run getter in tests Bryan Lara just added 20 runs in the morning session as he was dismissed for 216, his ninth double century of his career as Windies were all out for 591 in 167.4 .overs a lead of 234 runs on first ininings on day four of the Second Cricket Test against home side Pakistan at Multan.

Lara the West Indies captain was ably supported by David Mohammed who chipped in with 36 but the tail did not wag as the tourists lost their last five wickets for 68 runs.

Danish Kaneira was Pakistan?s best bowler with 5-181 despite being hammered relentlessly by Bryan Lara on day three, he got the prized wicket of the Windies batting star Lara with the score on 563.

Defending champions Calabar High will take on Bridgeport High at 1:00 p.m. before Walker Cup champions Eltham High oppose Excelsior High at 3:00p.m. Saturday november 18,2006

Calabar went throughout the second round of the competition unbeaten after victories over Wolmer's Boys and Norman Manley High before they were held to a 0-0 draw by Waterford in their final game.

The boys from Red Hills Road will be looking to their experienced trio of Ramone Palmer, Marlon Smith and Lennox Creary, all of whom played a key role in their success last season.

The match between Jamaica and Peru ended at a 1 all draw yesterday at the National Stadium. Alexander Sanchez who came on ten minutes into the second half and in less than 5 minutes scored the opening goal for Peru, but all was not lost thanks to Jermaine Hue scoring the equalizer.

SLAPPED with a three-match suspension and fined J$5,000 by the Disciplinary Committee of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), goalkeeper Edsel Scott will miss Tivoli Gardens' first two games in the second round of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League.
Scott's punishment - handed down last Thursday by the JFF's four-member Disciplinary Committee comprising Heron Dale, Rose-Marie Allen, Jacqueline Cummings and Neville Oxford - came as a result of his "bad behaviour" in Tivoli's 2-2 draw with Portmore United in a premiership match on October 29 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval
Scott served the first of the his three-match ban and watched from the sidelines as his team whipped Harbour View 4-0 on Sunday at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.

Portia Simpson Miller as she congratulated Asafa Powell on Monday for being named the 2006 male athlete of the year by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) at the 2006 World Athletics Gala in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
"It is with great pride and joy that I pay homage and congratulations to the new IAAF Athlete of the year, Jamaica's son of the soil, Asafa Powell," Mrs. Simpson Miller said in a release.
"In garnering this prestigious distinction, Asafa has become the first Jamaican male and the second Jamaican behind Merlene Ottey to win this award.''

Jamaica Plays Peru today

A good size crowd is expected in their black, green and gold outfits for an International friendly at the Office (National Stadium) as Jamaica tackles South American opponent?s Peru on November 15, 2006 at 7:00pm.

Peru, a 79th ranked Football nation in the world according to the latest rankings by FIFA plays a Jamaica team that is on a high after beating Canada 2-1in a recent friendly at the National Stadium pushing their ranking to 57th.

The win gave Jamaica?s football a lifeline since the Reggae Boyz failed to advance from their preliminary round group in the DIGICEL Caribbean Cup as they won two games but lost to Caribbean light weights St Vincent and the Grenadines 2-1.

West Indies Is No Longer the Worst Indies

The 27-year old Jamaican, Christopher Henry Gayle motivated his team to pull off a six-wicket win over their opponent South Africa at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansing stadium; landing them in the finals of the Icc Champions Trophy cricket tournament. They will now face world champions Australia in the finals in Mumbai November 5.

Trevor Berbick, found Dead

Former World Boxing Council (WBC) Heavy-weight Champion, Trevor Berbick, was found murdered near his doorstep in the quiet district of Norwich, in Portland, yesterday morning.

The body of the 52-year-old former champion was discovered at about 5 a.m. Saturday - lying face down in a pool of blood - by a church deacon, who had gone to open the doors of the Norwich Baptist Chapel, which is near to the boxer's house.
