Visa Application System to be Changed

According to information on Radio Jamaica there will be changes made to the visa application system at the United States Embassy in Kingston.

The problem lies with the online application system which has been causing hold ups as persons are making several appointments.

A briefing was held yesterday with the Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Janice Jacobs, where it was revealed that some travel agents were also securing blocks of appointments. She also stated that in the upcoming year a new system will be put in place to remove the problem.

The proposed plan to be executed in order to alleviate the problem is to have customers pay the application fee when they book their appointments online instead of paying the fee otherwise as is being done presently.

They believe this will lead to a decline in the problem they are currently facing.

JLP wins third straight time at the polls

Kingston, Jamaica:
Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) won their third staight election in four years after winning the Local Government elections on Wednesday December 5, 2007.
The victory at the polls was the JLP's second in three months, when they won the General Elections and outsted the PNP from power. They also won the Parish Council elections in 2003.
Preliminary counts indicate that the ruling JLP had won nine of 13 Parish Councils.
Interestingly the PNP have won a majority stake in the Portmore Municipality 7-4 over the JLP, however, the JLP managed to cop the big prize of Mayorship as Business man Keith Blake beat the incumbent George Lee of the PNP.
Another interesting senario is that the St Ann Parish Coucil was split eight-eight for both parties, leading to popular votes as the tie-breaker.
Overall the voter turn out was low as the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) reported that about 40% of voters turn out to fill their ballots.

The Local Elections are normally low keyed in terms of voter turn out but both parties will be requesting that their voters come out on the day, especially the PNP who don't want to lose back-to-back elections.

Parents should protect their children

It is an awesome responsibility to take care of a child whether it be a male or a female, but you (mother) has brought them in this world to nurture and care for them.
However, according to media reports there have been a sense of neglect and 'duh care' attitude towards children by a couple parents in Jamaica.
People in St Elizabeth has alleged that a mother and her common law husband has allowed their 12 year-old daughter to live with a 30 year-old man who is currently on the run, for three months in a swap for land in the community.
This is more that a case of desperation, but a case of deteriorating morale standards.
The child is the eldest of six siblings and her parents recently erected a shack on the premises just a stone throw away from where it was alleged the child was living with the son of the owner of the land they are now occupying.

World to experience Lunar eclipse today

Lunar%20Eclipse_blood%20red%20totality.jpg

Jamaicans and the rest of the World will be focusing on the skies this evening as a Lunar Eclipse is expected to take place at about 5:44 pm (March 3, 2007).

The eclipse itself is expected to last just over an hour, but persons can still view the beautiful separations that take place up to about 9:30 pm, which involves the eclipse of the moon.

A lunar eclipse occurs whenever the Moon passes through some portion of the Earth's shadow. This can occur only when the Moon is full, and when the Sun, Earth and Moon are exactly on a line, or very closely so. The type and length of a lunar eclipse depends upon the Moon's location relative to its orbital nodes.

Murder rate spiraling out of control

A staggering ten persons were murdered last Wednesday including five in one incident in Montego Bay that made even the sternest of Police Officers flinch in their denim suits.
As after slaughtering the five men, the killers 'beheaded' one of the victims and dumped the head of the male at the headquarters of the St James Police Division.

This was a direct statement to the Police that the criminal elements will not let up and their criminal activities and aren't afraid of the cops.

JLP Ahead in the Bill Johnson poll

The latest poll released has shown that JLP is one point ahead of the PNP and is therefore the likely candidate to win in the next general elections. Should we take these polls seriously at this time? My opinion is no, since so many times these pollsters have gotten it wrong. In addition I would warn the opposition not to run with these results and start celebrating.

But only time will tell, the PNP should however view these results as a wake up call and start putting their house in order. The Prime Minister has lost some of her popularity because of scandals upon scandal. Therefore persons will be more looking at her performance in determining whether they will go with the PNP in the next election.
