Dale Steyn was South Africa's best bowler with figures of 4-60 and Andre Nel supported well with 3-61.
South Africa played tough in their first innnings posting 321, with Ashwell Prince spearheading the batting with 98 and Mark Boucher making 59.
Dwayne Bravo 4-82 was Windies most successful bowler.
Windies Soldier on in the second innings making 262, with Rock solid Chaderpaul contributing 70 not out, and a fighting Gayle 38.
Steyn (4-44) and Nel (3-62) shared seven wickets.
The Proteas, captain made 85 as his team went over the target with 186-3.
Spinner Raul Lewis (2-42), and Bravo (1-34) shared the three wickets to fall.
The Windies though hampered by a bowler short, due to the injury of quick-man Fidel Edwards, and captain Chris Gayle wincing with a broken thumb and a troubling hamstring fought like true warriors but the runs they gave South Africa to chase weren't enough for a team ranked second in the world in Tests
