JLP wins third straight time at the polls

Kingston, Jamaica:
Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) won their third staight election in four years after winning the Local Government elections on Wednesday December 5, 2007.
The victory at the polls was the JLP's second in three months, when they won the General Elections and outsted the PNP from power. They also won the Parish Council elections in 2003.
Preliminary counts indicate that the ruling JLP had won nine of 13 Parish Councils.
Interestingly the PNP have won a majority stake in the Portmore Municipality 7-4 over the JLP, however, the JLP managed to cop the big prize of Mayorship as Business man Keith Blake beat the incumbent George Lee of the PNP.
Another interesting senario is that the St Ann Parish Coucil was split eight-eight for both parties, leading to popular votes as the tie-breaker.
Overall the voter turn out was low as the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) reported that about 40% of voters turn out to fill their ballots.
