Port Elizabeth, South Africa:
West Indies won their first Test match overseas against a top-ranked Test team in seven years when they defeated hosts South Africa by 128 runs on the fourth day at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth in South Africa on Sunday, December 30, 2007.

The last time the Windies knocked off a team with high credentials in Tests away from the Caribbean was against England in England in the 2000 series.

Windies resumed on their overnight score of 146-8 and were dismissed for 175, South Africa in rely, stumbled and were all out for 260, chasing a victory target of 389.

Scores in the game, West Indies 408 & 175, South Africa 195 & 260.

West Indies were only held up by Jacque Kallis (85) resilience, and a late order flourish by Andre Nell and Dale Steyn who put on a 67-run partnership near the end.
AB de Villiers made 61.

When Kallis went the match swung in Windies favour, as wickets tumble on regular intervals.

Jamaica’s Jerome Taylor (3-66), Fidel Edwards (3-37) and Darren Powell (1-47) pace and swing was too much for the second ranked Test playing nation’s batsmen who folded under the pressure.

It was a fitting New Year’s Eve present for first time Captain Chris Gayle and the West Indies who take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

The Proteas will now have to regroup and try and defend their home ground against a Windies team that has their confidence bursting through the seams.

Jamaica's Marlon Samuels was named player of the match for scores of 94 and 40, plus 1- 14 with his part time spin bowling in South Africa's second innings.
