Sprinter Asafa Powell gave Jamaica their first medal of the World Athletic Championships in Osaka, Japan, taking a bronze in the Men's 100m final on Sunday, August 26, 2007.
Powell was beaten by inform US sprinter Tyson Gay, who clocked 9.85 seconds, to take his first global title and Powell's second cousin, Derrick Atkins 9.81 seconds, took the silver as Powell (9.96 seconds) eased up metres before the tape.
Powell drawn in lane four, beside his rival Gay who occupied lane four, came out of the blocks ahead of Gay, but, Gay caught Powell about the 60 metre mark, and he did not respond, and Gay and Atkins ran past him.
