A Celebration of Mobility

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (CJCLS) in partnership with the Jamaica Council of Persons with Disabilities (JCPD), also in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of Jamaica (KCJ) all provided a successful conference at the Girls’ Guide Association of Jamaica (GGAJ), for the physically disabled as well as for senior citizens.

Ronsford Wright Executive Director of the Jamaica Councils of Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) told the Jamaica Classifieds at the conference Wednesday, June 13, 2007 that the aim of this event was to hand over fifteen hundred (1500) wheel chairs to designated agencies. Those wheel chairs were donated by the Jamaica Church of Latter-day Saints. Those chairs he added, will be distributed nationwide to agencies both government and non-government for mobility of such special persons that desire it.

The ceremony was splendorous, as several important presenters attended and the audience was pleased with their speeches and announcements. However, the handing over ceremony did not go according to plan as there were no wheel chairs present to hand over, due to the fact that the chairs were still in packaging at the Kingston wharf. Never the less, the succession of this event was not hindered as it was announced that come next Tuesday, June 19, 2007 the chairs will be officially distributed to the designated agencies across the island free of cost. The handing over ceremony lasted a mere two hours as it commenced at 11:00am and ended at 1:00pm.
