Windies win first Super 8 match
On a very eventful and emotional day of cricket the West Indies won their first ICC Cricket World Cup Super 8 match in Barbados on Thursday April 18, 2007.
After four straight defeats, the Windies playing in a match of only academic interest defeated Bangladesh by 99 runs, on the heels of Ramnaresh Sarwan's 91 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul's 50, while Bryan Lara in his last international game for the West Indies chipped in with 33, and Marlon Samuels back from a short absence tallied 31, as the Windies closed on 230-5 off 50 overs.
Bangladesh in reply crashed 131 all out in 43.5 overs.
Darren Powell continued his form with the ball taking 3-38 (10), with support coming from Corey Collymore 2-11 (7), Chris Gayle 2-28 (8.5), and Dwayne Bravo also 2-28 (10).
The West Indies earlier, won their first three preliminary round games against Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Ireland, but suffered four heavy losses, to the four semi-final nations.
