*Sri Lanka's depleted bowling attack was no match for Aussie batters
World Champions Australia chalked up their eight consecutive win of the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup after a convincing seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka yesterday, April 16, 2007 in Grenada.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat. The Asian team were quickly in trouble at 27-3. However, Mahela Jayawardene (72) and Chamara Silva (64)came to the rescue of their team putting on 140 runs for the fourth wicket, to help them to 227 all out. Nathan Bracken took 4-19 for the Aussies.
The Australian batsmen just had a few heck ups along the way, but Andrew Symonds (63) and Captain Ricky Ponting who made 66, saw them to 232-3 and victory with an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 106. Pointing finished the match in fine style hitting a big six.
The Men from 'down under' are on maximum 12 points, Sri Lanka which already qualified remain on eight points, both teams have a game in hand.
Australia is in ominous form, and if they don't slow down they might end the tournament undefeated. They have New Zeland in their final preliminary round game on Friday, before playing a semi-final match next week.
Sri Lanka their best seam bowler Chaminda Vaas and spin maestro Muttiah Muralitharan, and injured paceman Lasith Malinga.

Today (April 17, 2007) England plays South Africa and only a win for the Proteas will see them in the semi-final.
