Sydney, Australia

England batsmen had one of their better day in Australia this morning (January 2, 2007) local time after closing the opening day of their fifth and final test between themselves and Australia on 234-4 in Sydney, Australia.

Ian Bell top scored for the Europeans with 71, and Kevin Pietersen made 41.
When play resumes tomorrow morning local time, Andrew Flintoff 42 not out, and Paul Collinghood 25 not out will face the Aussie music.

Fast bowler Glen McGrath in his final test match for Australia has so far taken 2-57 off 21 overs, while the World's record holder for most wickets in tests spin maestro Shane Warne who will also retire after this test match went wicketless from 19 overs, conceding 59 runs.
With the ashes firmly stashed away, the only thing left for England to play for his pride of place.
But, when the longest rivalry in cricket history resumes tomorrow the Englishmen will hope that there is no batting collapse this time around, as it will be a long trip home with a humiliating white wash (5-0 trashing) on their minds.

Barry:

I hope that Australia will give Engalnd a fine beating. Base on Australia perdormance in the Ashes it appears as if they will be taking home the World Cup trophey in the weest indies this year.
