Hdr2007_01.jpg

Grammy award-winning superstar Michael Bolton is set to perform for the first time ever in Jamaica next month, courtesy of organizers of the 2007 Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

Bolton’s performance in Jamaica has been a long time in the making. As a family man and a single parent of three, Jamaica was Bolton’s vacation spot of choice for years. He even learned to snorkel and received his water sport’s certification in this beautiful Caribbean country. But despite invitations from several promoters, a performance never materialized.

But come January 2007, the singer, who has sold over 53 million records worldwide and has become a towering figure in the world of music, will grace a Jamaican stage in Montego Bay at the 2007 Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival. It is an event he describes as “a land mark moment because it is the tenth anniversary” of the festival.

The Cockpit Country of Jamaica, and the Threats Posed by Bauxite Mining

bauxite_mining_newport_jamaica.jpg

(Jan 1/07)
We enter the New Year with partial victories in our campaign to save the Cockpit Country, but these fall far short of what's required. At the moment, prospecting has been suspended, but recent statements made by the Government of Jamaica (GoJ) indicate that mining is a real possibility in the future, at least in some parts of the CC:

Joint second place outfit Harbour View Football Club will hope to cut Waterhouse's lead to two points with a win over depleted Portmore United at the Harbour View Mini stadium in the fifteenth round of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League tomorrow, Wednesday January 3, 2007.

Harbour View are on 25 points, the same as Reno which has an easy game against cellar dwellers Naggo Head at the Spanish town Prison Oval. Though Portmore, in fourth position on 23 points, has lost a number of key players due to football trials abroad including Jason Morrison, Demar Stewart and Rafe Wolfe, they are still in good nick as they have adequate replacement in Kevin Deerr, Carlington Smith, veteran striker Onandi Lowe whom can step up to the plate and deliver the goods, while Harbour View, playing at home can seal victory through Kevin Bryan, Greg Taylor, Lovell Palmer, and Loxley Thomas.

The pandemonium was shown live on National Television, as players on the field of play in fear for their lives lie flat on their stomachs.

Sydney, Australia:

Any hope of England spoiling Australia's celebration party in the fifth and final Ashes test were quickly dashed by the English Men's day two batting collapse and Australia's solid first innings reply.

Australia will surely go for the kill tonight (local time) on day four at the Sydney ground as they have the tourists on the ropes reeling at 114-5 just 12 runs ahead of Australia, batting a second time; the home nation made 393 all out in their first innings.

Christ's Death: Was It Good Enough?

christ.jpg

by: Rob Marshall

I was feeling very heavy and burdened, or as some people put it, I was depressed. The weight of my sin was hanging on me and I felt that I had to do something about it. My wife suggested that I meet with our pastor, so I called him and set up an appointment.

The pastor and I sat at the table as I began to outline to him why I was certain that God was punishing me. I had committed some sins and felt that God had allowed our son to die because I had been such a sinner. I had scripture references all lined up and I fully expected him to agree with me that, yes, I was a rotten, horrible sinner and God was angry with me.

But instead of agreeing with me, he looked across the table and asked, "What, wasn't Christ's death good enough for you?"

WARFARE! IN JAMAICA

warfare2.jpg

The adversaries of the devil have launched an attack on the decent law abiding citizens of the nation, and the state and only God can save us from their wrath.

Yesterday six persons were killed in Montego Bay, St James, adding to the ills of that part of the island.

The normal person cannot see what is really happening, only Holy Ghost blood washed people will see that the corruption that is happening is sent from the gates of hell, and only prayer, and repentance can save us.

The blood letting continues, and a lot of people have given up hope, but without hope the people will perish.

So be strong in the lord.

10 Tips On How To Pack Your Suitcase For Your Trip To Europe

Europe.jpg

by: Marion Kummerow

When packing for a trip to Europe you need to consider the weather, as well as the activities you are planning to participate in.

One important thing to keep in mind for all air travel (not only to Europe) is not to over-pack. Most carriers allow only 20 kilo or 45 lb if you’re traveling economy. Furthermore you want to travel as light as possible in case you have to drag your luggage around with you.

I travel for business and private reasons at least 30 times a year and here are my most important recommendations:

1. Don’t pack last minute. This will give you the chance to buy some things you need before your departure.

2. Start with the things you need for every vacation
Toiletries, underwear, socks, medicine. Always take sunscreen: As a working person you probably spend most of your time indoors and aren’t used to the sun.

Us Should Not Continue Tightening The Economic Grip On Cuba

cuba-lg.gif

by: Jonathon Hardcastle

The US government is one of the three countries in the world that have initiated and maintained the Cuba blockage. Specifically, only US, Israel and Uzbekistan are the rejecting the voice of the United Nations General Assembly to seize this type of trade treatment. More cases appear every year in the news regarding the US embargo consequences on the lives of millions of Cubans. Food, medicine and other important supplies are withheld from the citizens of this island due to its political history and recent communist upheaval that led Fidel Castro in power. But although the General Assembly of the United Nations approved a resolution, condemning the economic blockade that the US has applied to Cuba for more than 35 years, the situation remains almost unchanged.

Will the 'real' woman stand up?

Women, do you think it's great being a natural woman, I mean having your own hair and other parts of your body?

But, there are those that do not like what they were given by God at birth, and use hair pieces, braids, human hair, tattoos, buttocks extensions, surgical enhancements to add, so to speak to their beauty.

Some of these products that women add to their bodies can so easily fool men, such as the 'wonder' bra that makes as if some members of the opposite sex feels as if she has these dynamic breasts, added to this are stuffings inside the bra, and if not is not enough, women do surgery to get those dynamic breasts.

The new service was recently announced in the wake of the winding up of BWIA West Indies Airways and the decision by its successor, Caribbean Airlines, to drop Barbados from its non-stop New York schedule.

Culinary Traditions Of Cuba
by: Kirsten Hawkins

The East Caribbean island of Cuba has a rich cultural heritage from which has arisen culinary traditions that are as vibrant and varied as the variety of cultures that have contributed to the development of this distinct and delicious cuisine. In addition to the ancient influence of the native peoples of Cuba, the Spaniards brought their own culinary styles, tinged by those of the Moors who held huge parts of Spain for centuries. The slaves that were brought from Africa made significant culinary and cultural contributions, with other culinary traditions being brought to the island with the French colonists fleeing uprisings in Haiti.

Savage murder!

It didn't matter to the gunmen who invaded Ryan Dunkley's yard - a tenement at 40 Maxfield Avenue in Kingston - that he was holding two of his daughters.

The heartless criminals shot him dead, endangering the lives of the two- and four-year-old girls.

The savagery of Dunkley's murder just after midday yesterday sparked more grief and anger in the volatile community that was already fuming at the destruction, by fire, of a shop and three homes along Wellington Road Wednesday night.

Come clean on cricket problems, JCC urges gov't

The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce has called on the government to come clean about difficulties it is facing in hosting the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup 2007.

At the same time, the chamber expressed concern that the government's $6.7 billion investment in hosting 11 matches in the third largest show on earth could be unprofitable.

In a statement this week, the JCC, headed by businessman Mark Myers, also cautioned the government that the absence of an islandwide beautification project could mean "an embarrassment to the nation".

After more than 30 years of making music, legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire performs on the island for the first time at the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival to be staged next weekend in Montego Bay.

"We're very excited about visiting Jamaica... [The audience can] look forward to a great band with a great catalogue of songs coming to rock the house," said percussionist Ralph Johnson yesterday in a phone interview from Los Angeles. Johnson, who joined the band in 1972 after founder Maurice White dissolved the initial line-up, has weathered the climate of a constantly changing industry.

Cops nab alleged baby snatcher

A woman who yesterday allegedly posed as a ward assistant and kidnapped a two-day-old baby girl from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH) in Kingston, was last night being interrogated by police.

Police say they found baby Dajahnae about four hours later at an undisclosed location in Kingston.

Detective Sergeant Jewbert Lewellyn told the Observer that the baby was taken from her father's arms. First-time dad André Fairclough had gone to the 4th floor of the hospital at about 7:30 am to visit girlfriend Kadesha Fogo and his daughter. Thirty minutes later, the fake assistant reportedly told Fairclough that she was taking Dajahnae for her shots on another floor of the hospital.

Venezuela legislature to grant Chavez rule by decree

CARACAS, Venezuela (AFP): Venezuela's legislature voted unanimously to grant President Hugo Chavez the power to rule by decree for 18 months, in the initial vote on a bill Thursday.

The bill authorises Chavez to "rule by decree ... with the force of law," legislative president Cilia Flores said after a unanimous show of hands in favor.

Chavez, in power since 1999, began serving a new, six-year term a week ago, with his allies controlling Venezuela's unicameral legislature.

"We welcome the ... law, with the support of the National Assembly, which backs our leader," said Chavez, the president of the legislature.

I have a dream (Martin Luther King, Jr. )

mlk.jpg This is the full text of MLK's heroic and devastatingly moving speech delivered on August 28, 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

$310K US Phone - Diamonds and Emeralds Rubies

cellphone.jpg

"The Signature Cobra is a luxurious cellphone encrusted with precious rocks by French jeweler Boucheron and it cost $310,000 USD. Why? The Signature Cobra is a ritzy gadget made from one pear-cut diamond, one round white diamond, two emerald eyes and 439 rubies. If you can’t afford the $310,000 model a cheaper version is available for an affordable $115,000 USD. Thanks to the discount, .5% of the world’s population can now afford it. Vertu, the luxury phone company that creates and markets the Signature Cobra, is now taking orders which are currently limited to 8, but only 26 Signature Cobras will be made for the lucky few who make that decision. (slashphone)

I wouldn't be surprised if someone in Jamaica has this phone.

What's happening with Naomi Campbell

naomi_campbell.jpg
JANUARY 16--Naomi Campbell, pleaded guilty to assaulting her maid with a cell phone and is facing a lawsuit brought by the former employee, who claims the supermodel injured her with a flying BlackBerry.

Ana Scolavino also alleges that, Campbell defamed her describing her as a thief.

What a gwan with Naomi, the beauty needs to get contol of herself.

From sources in the Media Naomi had originally claimed that she did not injure the woman and that Scolavino was trying to tek some money from her.

Base on this story I can't blaim the woman for filing a lawsuit, I think Naomi deserve this one.

By the way Naomi was sentenced to five days community service and ordered to attend anger management classes. Campbell was also ordered to pay Scolavino's medical bills.

Menopause: What Every Woman Needs To Know

If there is one stage of a woman’s life that is hard to cope up with that would be her menopausal years. As defined, menopause is a stage wherein a woman’s monthly period has stopped. Veering away from the common conception that menopause is a “disease,” people in the medical world says that menopause is nothing but a normal and expected change in any woman’s body.

The Alhambra – Grenada

grenada.jpg

by: Mike McDougall

The Alhambra is touted by many as being the best preserved example of a Moorish palace in Europe. Located in the Andalusian city of Grenada the ancient fortress is undoubtedly the city’s most famous site. The name Alhambra translates as “Red Castle” in Arabic and was described by Moorish poets as “a pearl set in emeralds”. The fortress occupies an ideal strategic defensive position flanked by a river to the north looking towards the towering Sierra Nevada. The Alhambra has had a rich and chequered history that has seen it under the rule of many and face near destruction at the hands of aggressors and natural disasters alike.

Men's Fashion Tips: Matching Mens Shoes with Suits or Pants

by: Leroy Fong

I have received many queries by readers on how to match their shoes against their other mens clothing, like suit or pants. Actually it is not as difficult as they think it is since the choices of colors for men's shoes are quite limited. Unless you have a taste for extraordinary colors, otherwise there should not be much problem coordinating dress shoes.

Customer Service (Part 1)

Customers_sm.jpg

What is a customer?

A customer can be a person, company, or other entity that buys or exchange goods and services produced by another person, company, or other entity. So, then it is safe to say that a customer/client is someone with a need to be satisfied.

A customer is the most important person ever in a company-in person or by mail.

A customer is not dependent on us, we are dependent on him.

The customer is not an interruption of our work he is the purpose of it
We are not doing a favor by serving him; he is doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so.

A customer is not someone to argue or match wits with-nobody ever won an argument with a customer

A customer is a person who brings us his want-it is our job to handle them profitably to him and to ourselves.

The truth is that we all are customers and we all change roles by serving others. Who is your customer?

JLP Ahead in the Bill Johnson poll

The latest poll released has shown that JLP is one point ahead of the PNP and is therefore the likely candidate to win in the next general elections. Should we take these polls seriously at this time? My opinion is no, since so many times these pollsters have gotten it wrong. In addition I would warn the opposition not to run with these results and start celebrating.

But only time will tell, the PNP should however view these results as a wake up call and start putting their house in order. The Prime Minister has lost some of her popularity because of scandals upon scandal. Therefore persons will be more looking at her performance in determining whether they will go with the PNP in the next election.

The World Needs More Women Leaders

by: Stephen Oakes

Mature and industrialized nations today continue to strive for human equality, especially when it comes to women’s rights. In general, women are the voice which calms the fighting spirit of man. I believe that women who are elected to office bring new perspectives to issues and are more inclined to collaborate effectively with their counterparts. I often wonder if this is one of the reasons for the civilized manner in which modern countries enjoy. It is a sense of balance and fairness that allows people to determine their own fate.

Increases in the minimum wage is always a touchy topic since there are two competing factors that must always be considered.

  1. Can the employers afford an increase in minimum wage
  2. The satisfaction of the employees

Although the satisfaction of employees is always a concern
and may be a premise to swing public opinion in an election year, the ability
to pay their wage bill should be placed at a high priority. This
is the case since an increase in employers wage bills may result in some
persons loosing their jobs.

To establish consensus the government should consult with all parties and come up with a balance that is to the benefit of all the players involve.

Murder rate spiraling out of control

A staggering ten persons were murdered last Wednesday including five in one incident in Montego Bay that made even the sternest of Police Officers flinch in their denim suits.
As after slaughtering the five men, the killers 'beheaded' one of the victims and dumped the head of the male at the headquarters of the St James Police Division.

This was a direct statement to the Police that the criminal elements will not let up and their criminal activities and aren't afraid of the cops.
A top level meeting between the Security Forces, Government and other stake holders didn't slow the murder rate.

Are Leaders Born Or Made?

about-future-leaders.jpg

by: Wally Bock

For centuries people have debated whether leaders are born or made. Several decades ago researchers started trying to answer the question. The debate goes on, even though we know the answer.

It turns out to be a little of both. Leaders are sort of born and they're always made. Knowing the details will help you develop effective leaders for your company.

Leaders are Sort of Born

It seems like there's only one thing that a person needs to actually be born with in order to be a leader later in life. That's intelligence. A leader needs to be smart enough.

This can be done by switching your credit card to one that has a 0% interest free offer on balance transfers and purchases, or simply playing a credit card game such as “stoozing”. The term stoozing is used to describe the practice of using the credit limit you receive on a credit card to make money by transferring the balance to high interest savings account.

Silicone Breast Implants Are Back

by: Ricardo de Silva

In a day many would have been hard pressed to predict, the government has lifted a ban on silicone breast implants. In a word, they are back and here is the scoop.

Silicone Breast Implants Are Back

Silicone implants were first used for breast augmentation and reconstruction in 1962. The implants were extremely popular, but concern slowly started to develop regarding the health risks associated with them.

The Food and Drug Administration requires all medical products be safe before they can be used with the general public. This standard, however, was not in effect in 1962 when silicone implants came onto the market. The companies making the implants argued against regulation, but serious health risks associated with silicone exposure when implants ruptured ultimately led to the FDA stepping in and eventually banning their use.

Fifty Mistakes Men Make When Having Sex

by: Rod Phillips

Just in case you thought the route to sexual bliss was straightforward, here's a list of things to avoid. They're all pretty much guaranteed passion killers for a woman - and if your check list contains more than ten of these, you've got some serious work to do on your sexual etiquette!

1 Going straight for the naughty bits

You've got to be sensitive to the fact that a woman is more likely to be irritated than aroused when a man dives for her breasts and vulva after a few minutes' perfunctory kissing. While you might get to feel the goods, you're not going to be invited back.

2 Not knowing how to kiss sensitively

Passionate or sensitive, firm or gentle, good kissing is an art form which lubricates the wheels of sex and gets everyone in the mood for more intimacy. Learn how to kiss, and do it well. That doesn't mean sticking your tongue in her mouth and wiggling it around like you're trying to floss her teeth.

3 Being too rough when you touch her erogenous zones

Men like a firmer touch than women, especially when it comes to our penises. So if you touch her clitoris with as much force as you apply to your penis when you masturbate, she's most likely to howl with pain - and then kick you out of bed. Remember: the clitoris has twice as many nerve endings as the penis, in a much smaller area. Treat it with respect. It's the only organ in the human body that has no function other than to provide pleasure.
