Today is World Aids Day

aids.jpg

Countries across the World will recognize those that have died or suffered from the Acquired Immune deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and the virus (HIV) that causes the decease.

Ever since the decease was discovered in the late 1970's the conception was that this was a homosexual disease but when heterosexuals started contracting the virus (HIV) that causes AIDS then people began fearing that AIDS will be the next epidemic.

There is no known cure for AIDS but over the years persons contracting the HIV virus are living longer through advancement in medicine. Taking antiretroviral drugs, exercise and a good diet have been proven to lengthen the life expectancy of HIV victims.

MALARIA

malaria.jpg
child with malaria

The incidence of malaria has been in the news over the last couple of days and we are just using this opportunity to provide some information on this disease. Malaria is a serious disease caused by a parasite, which if not treated promptly can sometimes be fatal. World Health Organization estimates that each year about 300 –500 million new cases occur and more than one million persons die from the disease. About 1,300 cases of malaria are diagnosed in the United States each year with the vast majority being travelers and immigrants returning from malaria-risk areas like sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Although malaria can be a fatal disease, illness and death from malaria are largely preventable. As with most infections, the very young and the old are more vulnerable.

Don?t drink and drive this Christmas

drunk%20driving%20sign.jpg

A%20drunk%20driver%20did%20this%201.gif
drunk driving caused this accident

Christmas is usually a time for wild staff parties where there is a lot of liquor passing around; at many times these liquors are free dependant on who is putting it on.

Some persons may over indulge and want to abuse alcoholic beverages.

We at JAMCL is appealing to these people if you can not control your drinking habits please don?t drive. Try instead to have a designated driver to carry you from the place of amusement to your home. If you plan to drive remember don?t drink, because alcoholic substances impairs a driver?s vision, sense of direction and judgment which is critical when traveling on the public?s road. We don?t need to add to road deaths for the year which are pretty high already. Men and to a lesser extend women drivers take resposibility for your actions, remember the live you save may be your own.

Do have a joyful Christmas, but be safe.

I heard mutha........ sayin’ they made Hov…
Made Hov say ‘OK, so, make another Hov’…
Niggas wasn’t playin’ they day role
So we parted ways like Ben and J-Lo
I shoulda been did it, but I been in a daze though
I put friends over business end of the day though
But when friends…business interest is day-glo
Ain’t nuffin left to say though, I guess we forgot what we came for
Shoulda stayed in food and beverage, too much flossing
Too much Sam Rothstein, I ain’t a bitch but I gotta divorce them
Hov had to get the shallow shit up off him
And I ain’t even want to be famous
Niggas is brainless to unnecessarily go through these changes
And I don’t even know how I came to this
Except that fame is the worst drug known to man
It’s stronger than heroin, when you can look in the mirror like ‘there I am”
And still not see what you become
I know I’m guilty of it too, but not like them

You lost one...

TREATMENT of MALARIA

child%20with%20malaria.jpg

Before a medical doctor treats a patient he first needs to find out if the person (s) have the symptoms of malaria, if yes then tests are done such as physical tests including the taking of blood samples to be tested then a diagnosis is arrived.

If a person tests positive for the Malaria decease then treatment will be administered immediately.

Travelers from different countries may contract or spread the Malaria decease so anti-malaria vaccines is the way to go but these should be done well in advance before one migrates, especially if it is a Malaria stricken country like Indian and Sub-Sahara Africa the tourist will visit.

6 Tips For Saving Gas

savegas.jpg

By: Jackson Porter

In the past months we have seen the price of gasoline soar higher than ever before, and this can be hard on people who have a budget that is tight. Even though gas prices have come down a slight bit, you still will want to do everything you possibly can to save on the money you have to pay out for gas. There are a variety of ways that you can save gas, and save money.

Tip#1 - Start Carpooling

Carpooling is a great idea for fellow students and fellow employees both. If you can find people that are going to the same place you are you can save gas by riding together. It may be a good idea to trade off on who is driving from week to week so no one person gets stuck having to drive all the time. If you have to take your children to school or other functions you can also work on trading off with your friends and neighbors to take them there.

Why Do People Need Web Sites?

By: Anna Ryaskova

The procedure requires a creative approach as well. The idea of the web site must be promptly thought over: not so much, but with zest! Not to overdo with the ideas – is key, because when a person enters the site, he needs to find first of all, what he is interested in.

Nowadays, Web design is of a great request over the Internet. Web design lies not only in the creation of web pages but also all the content and management is included.

This process includes an entire complex of tasks and objectives set before the team, consisting of a web designer, programmer, maker-up, optimizer and other specialists, and depends on the complexity and the specificity of the site. The development of a web site starts from the detail studying of the client’s involvement, his scope of ability, improvement of his goals.

Enjoy Great Golf In Jamaica

golf2_ACT090.jpg

by: Simon Harris

A vacation destination for decades, Jamaica is home to a number of quality golf courses. The temperate climate is a welcome part of the golfing experience, as is the general atmosphere of the golf courses, with many being notable for their outstanding customer service focus and their beautifully kept grounds. It should be noted that while many of the golf courses are private, most of the more exclusive facilities do make day passes available for vacationers.

Who will be the undisputed King at Guinness Sting 2006?

Sting promoted under the Guinness brand is arguably the biggest one night Reggae Show in the World and a strong line-up is billed for this year’s staging on Boxing Day, December 26, 2006 at the Jam World Entertainment Centre in Portmore.

There will be a top ten line-up that will highlight this year’s staging including Buju Banton, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, and the Don Gorgon Ninja Man. But remember Portmore DJ Vybz Kartel will be 'Up to the Time' and the Fireman Capleton will be on ‘top a things’ so make sure to be at Sting.

Will it be Buju Banton, the man who you gave you ‘Driver…don’t stop at all’, or can it be Bounty Killer the War Lord, who shouts ‘People Dead'; Beenie Man, the girls then Sugar, Fireman Capleton, Ninja Man the Daddy of all clashes, Mr. Contraversy Vybz Kartel or will it be one of the new sensation’s on the Reggae scene, Mavado ‘Gansta for Life’, Busy Signal ‘Testing, testing 1,…3’ or Aidonia ‘Mr. Buckham’ will steal the show.

JAMCL is requesting comments and who you think is going to mash up de place, get nuff forwards, rule the roost so to speak at Sting 2006! Please send your comments, in the comments box provided.

PERTH, AUSTRALIA: World champions Australia regained the Ashes crown which they relinquished last year in England with a pulsating 206-run victory over their long time rivals on the fifth and final day of the Third Cricket Test at the WACA, in Australia this morning (December 18, 2006) local time.

Australia currently has an unassailable 3-0 lead with the two test matches remaining only of academic interest. But knowing how Australia plays they will be hell bent on embarrassing the Englishmen by giving them a proper spanking a 5-0 white wash may be on the cards.

What to expect upon arriving in Jamaica and at your Sandals Resort

index-box1-3.jpg

by: John Gall

When your plane touches down at Sangster International Airport in Jamaica you will have to get your bags and then clear customs. Once through customs there will be many people wanting to help you with your bags etc. I'd suggest just getting your own stuff over to the Sandals Tour desk. Here you'll find a Sandals rep who will put stickers on your bags so they know which Sandals resort they should go to. A skycap in the red had will then load your bags and take them to the bus. Keep in mind these are not Sandals employees and they will expect a tip. I believe $2.00 USD per bag is customary. If you don't want to tip, I'd suggest being upfront that you'll take your own bags. Being that Jamaicans are very good hosts they will likely tell you to not worry and try and carry your stuff anyway. My advice is go with it and enjoy your vacation.

Men's Fashion Coordination: Color Matching Against Your Skin Complexion

menclothes.jpg

by: Leroy Fong

One of the biggest fashion questions for men is usually the lack of understanding on how to color coordinate and look sharp and smart. In order to stay safe, we always see men wearing clothes with colors maintained within navy, blue tones, black and white, or khakis. While I strongly believe that men can definitely move out of these colors as men’s fashion has evolved tremendously.

Six Great Ways to Spend Time with the Kids this Christmas

1. Go Looking at Christmas Lights – Every year, we load the kids up in the mini-van and spend an evening touring around looking at Christmas lights. Some communities even have contests for the best light display. We have houses in our community that the kids can get out and walk around the displays. The kids think this is really cool.

Tips For Wearing Perfume

img.jpg

by: Marilyn Pokorney

Perfumes can be fun to wear. Here are some tips on buying and using perfumes.

When buying perfume always try a sample. Wear it for about 10 minutes before deciding if you like it. This allows the alcohol to evaporate and the oils in perfumes to interact with the oil on the skin and will be a little different for everyone.

Try samples in the late afternoon. The power of smell is stronger during that time of day.

When starting a new perfume always use it on only one small area of skin. If there is an allergy to any of the ingredients it's the safest way to discover it. After an hour, if there is no reaction, the perfume is safe to wear.

When wearing perfume put it on the pulse points. The inner wrists, behind the knee, and below the jawline near the ears. The pulse sends out the scent.

Perfume will keep fresher longer if you store it in a cool, dark place since sunlight and heat interact with the oils in the perfume.

Making A Great First Impression On Women

Beyonce%20an%20jay%20z.jpg

by: Dharmesh Patel

ALWAYS look your best. I know this sounds REALLY obvious but you'd be surprised by how many men don't understand the importance of this simple tip. You never know when the girl of your dreams will turn up, or where. And it’s become a bit of a cliché because it’s true -- first impressions really do count.

Here are some figures to consider from my studies.

If you make a GOOD first impression on a woman, you have a 90% chance of EVER getting with her at that point (10% of women for whatever reason will be unreachable for most men at ANY point – she might like women herself etc).

If you make a BAD first impression your chances with her reduce drastically to just 20%. This means that to make her attracted to you AFTER the first 3 minutes of meeting her will be incredibly difficult if her first impressions of you were bad.

It’s the difference between climbing a mountain and using a helicopter to fly up one. Good first impressions means you’re on your way to the top in the helicopter, bad first impressions means you have a difficult climb to success – no helicopters for you.

Jesus Christ the true meaning of Christmas

birth%20of%20jesus%20christ.jpg

The celebration of Jesus Christ is the main reason for this season.

However, commercial entities have discretely taken Christ from the equation as more popular names used are ?Merry X-mas?, ?Happy Holidays?, ?Festive or Yuletide season? during this time of the year.

Money has replaced the spiritual and traditional Christmas that was once celebrated on this beautiful island. The ?bling? culture as taken precedence, and who have the most expensive gifts to give are shown as dads or dons and the one?s who doesn?t have anything to give, but a pleasant smile is shunned.

A Little Bit About The Chihuahua

Yoda100_0067c.jpg

by: Connie Limon

The Chihuahua is know by no other name and has been popular north and south of the Rio Grande for many years. It is the oldest purebred canine native to the North American continent.

The Chihuahua’s origin is filled with tales and extends back to the Toltec civilization of Mexico in the ninth century. Discovery of the earliest Chihuahuas were in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Ancestors of the Chihuahua could include a small hairless Chinese dog, which could account for the size reduction of the original Chihuahua. The ancient people in Mexico first developed a prairie dog or gopher, which was mute, longhaired and larger than the present-day Chihuahua.

Moral Decay Whose Fault is It?

jamaica.gif
'
The Jamaican Society has fallen to an all time spiritual low and the question should be asked whose fault is it.

Yes it’s true that Jamaica has the most churches per mile in the world, however the empty benches and the underutilization of church buildings raises numerous question that needs to be answered.

I have always held the view that the presence of so many churches per mile is not an indication of the spiritual richness of our country but more a reflection of how divided we are as a people. Just as political tribalism has divided the Jamaican people, the Church has also played its part in dividing Christians. As a result the country has developed a generation of lost persons who are seeking for truth and leadership.

So whose fault is it?

7 Ways To A Successful Marriage

imagesCA13GPQH.jpg

By Angie Lewis

What do you think would deem a marriage successful? Is your marriage successful or are you still working on bringing it into success? Couples may differ in what they believe constitutes a successful marriage. I have compiled a few thoughts that I think couples should incorporate into their own relationship for a successful marriage.

1. Proper Communication

In a successful marriage both husband and wife understand where the other stands on certain issues within the marriage, and are considerate of each other’s feelings. They don’t let matters pile up on the back burner to cause unneeded resentment and animosity later; instead they discuss issues in an appropriate manner when they come up.

2. Acceptance (tolerance, validation, forgiving, supportive)

Accepting one another is very important if you want a happy and satisfying marriage. By accepting the person you married, you are less likely to bring up faults and bad habits and later use those faults against them. True acceptance is loving the person you married in every respect.

Welcome to JAMROCK 2006 Review

Jamrock.jpg

Last night I attended the welcome to JAMROCK concert at the Constant Spring football field, I will give the show an eight (8) out of ten (10).

Let’s start with areas that I was dissatisfied with:

1.There apparently was no parking arrangement in place. As a resul most of the patrons had to squeeze in a corner. I had to pay a man two hundred dollars for a parking spot on the road.

2. The sound was atrocious. TOK was badly hurt in my opinion. The best sound should be used for a production of this nature, even if it means increasing the price.

Mathew The Tax Collector

Mathew's Name means "gift of Yahweh". Mathew a disciple of Jesus was the author of the first New Testament Book.

When Mathew left his occupation of gathering taxes, he hosted a banquet for the Lord and invited a number of other tax collectors (Lk 5:27-32).

The large number of Old Testament quotations used in the book seems to indicate that Mathew's writting was directed primarily towards a Jewish Audience. The book puts great stress on Old Testament passages which show that Jesus was the Messiah (Christ), long awaited King of Israel.

Matthew, of all the Gospel writers, seems most aware of the need to place Jesus in Jewish tradition. He is the only writer who includes the genealogy of Joseph in his story.

WHITE WASH BECKONS FOR ENGLAND?

Melbourne, Australia:

Australia will be gunning for a clean sweep, a 5-0 ?white wash? in the final test match against England after they just destroyed their European opponents in the fourth and penultimate test in Melbourne, Australia by an innings and 99 runs; winning within three days yesterday December 28, 2006 and push to an unbeatable 4-0 lead in the Five test-match Ashes series.

It will take something special from the tourists to leave Australia with a draw, or more remotely a win in the final test, taking into consideration their dismal run of form in the series. The last time Australia had a white wash over England was in a 1920-21 series.

Cranberries - Simple Protection from Cancer and Heart Disease

heart1.gif

When is the last time you ate cranberries? Was it with a turkey dinner? With all the research pointing to the amazing health benefits of this simple berry, shouldn't cranberries be more than a once a year side dish?

How Cranberries Are Proving Their Strength:

The Cranberry Institute provides the results of studies and research that highlight the fantastic health benefits of the humble cranberry.

Cranberries have been used for thousands of years by Native Americans as a source of food and to extend the shelf life of dried meats. Colonial sailors also made use of the natural preservatives in cranberries (from benzoic acid) which allowed them to last through long sea voyages, and the high Vitamin C content which prevented scurvy.

Perhaps they were on to something since new research suggests that cranberries may prevent the adhesion of the e.coli bacteria - a common cause of food poisoning from contaminated meat - to the urinary tract. This 'anti-adhesion' effect may also help in preventing bacteria from causing stomach ulcers and gum disease.

Holiday In Barbados

by: Annie Jones

‘NOT JUST FISH & NOT JUST FOR THE RICH’

Think luxury Caribbean holiday and Barbados surely springs to mind. Up until recently, as your aircraft landed at Grantley Adams International Airport, you could see that symbol of ultimate luxury parked on the runway: Concorde. Today, she’s hidden away in a hangar but still a testament to the fact that British Airways felt that Barbados was the only other place in the world – apart from New York – which could sustain Concorde flying into the island twice a week.

Saddam Hussein executed before dawn

saddam_280_12262006.jpg

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Saddam Hussein, among the world’s most brutal dictators, struggled briefly after American military guards handed him over to Iraqi executioners. But as his final moments approached, he grew calm. Dressed in a black coat and trousers, he clutched a Quran as he was led to the gallows, and in one final moment of defiance, refused to have a hood pulled over his head.
